Hi! I’m Kathy Libby. I live in Southern New Jersey and have two passions--Photography and Teaching. I'm excited about photography and want to share all I've learned with others.
I am proud to say that I am self-taught. If you’ve been browsing my website, then you know I got my first SLR film camera as a college graduation gift. I had a couple of art classes that had piqued my interest in photography. So, I was really excited when I got the camera, and I rushed out and got some books on photography to teach myself.
I had put my camera down when I became vegetarian/vegan. (Film is not vegan.) It wasn’t until digital cameras came out that I was able to get back into photography. I eventually bought a DSLR (a Canon 40D). Oh, I loved it! Again, I picked up some books. This time though, I also had YouTube to learn from. I spent hours upon hours in front of my laptop studying how to do things. I’d sit there holding my camera, so I could practice what I was watching. If I wasn’t studying YouTube videos or books, I was out somewhere trying to put the skills I was learning into practice.
I think that has all influenced the way I teach. I don’t just lecture. I am very hands-on. I believe in showing my students where features are on their cameras and having my students practice both in the classroom and in between classes.
I've been teaching for the Cape May County Library & Cape May County Tech School since the beginning of 2022. I love to combine teaching & photography to those who want to learn. I love the creative control you get from a DSLR or Mirrorless camera on Manual Modes. If you want to take control of your camera and learn to make images, let's talk!

Announcement!! I now offer Private Lessons! For Learning Photography & Lightroom Classic Simply contact me. Join me for hands-on, one on one lessons, where we discuss the basics of using a digital DSLR/Mirrorless camera. Learn important photography terminology and basics of what the buttons/knobs on your camera are for. This training will be done on a personalized, individual basis either online over Zoom/Microsoft Teams OR In Person. Let me help you learn how to use YOUR camera and followed by learning how to edit your photos with Adobe Lightroom Classic. Announcing!! I will be instructing a Digital Photography Beginners Class at the Cape May County Library, Lower Cape Branch, 2600 Bayshore Road Villas, NJ 08251 Registration Opens Feb 9, 2026 |

Do you have a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) or mirrorless camera that you want to use? Digital photography is great for family photos, nature, hobbyists and more! In this hands-on course you will learn to operate your digital camera to include terminology, parts, features, how to take photos and composition techniques to produce professional pictures. Photos will be taken during class, so please bring your DSLR or mirrorless camera, memory card, charged battery and the camera’s user manual to each night of class. Later in the course, a possible field trip to a nearby location to take photos may be included, weather permitting.
Bring your DSLR or Mirrorless camera (make sure it’s charged, and you have a memory card), AND bring the user manual.
